You may see SEO companies and SEO software mentioning Keyword Density, well as you may or may not know Google, and no doubt, the other Search Engines, change their Ranking Algorithm from time to time and there are (speculation only) over one hundred ingredients to Googles algorithm at the last check.
Synonyms
One Great way to INCREASE your rankings is to use Synonyms, that is, words that have the same meaning as another. You see for many years people have been trying to guess the ranking algorithms for all the Search Engines so that SEO masters can acheive the Holy Grail and then be able to churn out one high ranking website after another.
To do this people analyze the top Ten results on the search engines and then try to copy this format. The only thing is that people concentrate on Keywords where it may be an overall view of keywords and their synonyms that produce the rankings. (Side Note, Although analysing the top 10 results gives you an indication of what gets you into the search engines remember that there are a lot of external influences as well, again checking your backlinks is useful but remember backlinks are in a state of flux and what you believe to be the number of backlinks is most certainly wrong at any given time.)
The Search Engines obviously love this technique because only they decide what related terms will add to the Ranking - or even Damage it - So the conclusion is to use Synonyms, and not just synonyms, but a general sprinkling of related words to your targeted phrase or keywords.
One of the ways of doing this is to produce a good, content rich site, and keep it updated. No real need to optimise (apart from the Basics) and your Rankings should come.. just keep adding content regularly..
